Day 5 – Homeward Bound from Rabat

Our final morning in Morocco began bright and early at 6:30 a.m. After a quick breakfast of baps, we gave the apartment a final tidy-up, checking every corner to make sure nothing was left behind. With everything packed, we left the key inside and gently pulled the door shut—our time in Rabat had come to an end.

At around 7:40 a.m., we made our way on foot to the train station, where the airport bus (Line AE) stops. A few other travellers were already waiting, suitcases in tow. The bus arrived promptly at 7:55 a.m., slightly earlier than expected. We paid 25 dirhams each (just €5 total for both of us), and settled in for a smooth journey to the airport beneath clear blue skies—a fitting end to a trip that had been sun-soaked from start to finish.

We arrived at Rabat–Salé Airport around 8:20 a.m., with plenty of time to spare. I checked at the airline desk, but it wasn’t open yet. Around 20 minutes later, check-in began, and we were third in the queue. The larger hand luggage was weighed, but not the smaller one. We handed over our printed boarding passes in exchange for official ones and proceeded to security.

The airport has a two-step security process: first, a passport check at the entrance; then passport control proper, where our documents were scanned, stamped, and returned with minimal fuss. After that, a quick checkpoint confirmed we’d had our passports stamped before heading to the security scanners—no queue, and a relaxed process: laptops out, belts off, the usual drill.

With security behind us, we entered the boarding area, a compact space with a few food and souvenir shops. I spent the last 32 dirhams from my remaining 50 on bottled water—a surprisingly good deal for airport prices. Then we found a spot to recharge our phones with our power packs and waited for our flight, already reminiscing about the week behind us.
